Antilia : Ambani Residence Vastu Case Study

Sunday, 18 October 2026 by Anand Soni

Antilia – 27 floors, 570 ft, 400,000 sq ft on Altamount Road, Cumballa Hill, Mumbai – is the most analyzed private house in India for esoteric architecture. Here’s how it reads across systems:

1. Vastu Shastra

Official claim: East-facing main entrance, which is considered ideal – lets in morning Surya energy. Design philosophy explicitly cites reliance on Vastu, orientation and circulation based on Vastu principles.

Controversy: Construction finished 2010 but family only moved late 2011-2012. Most reported reason: non-compliance. In classic Vastu, East should be light, open, low. Antilia’s East is blocked by other towers on Altamount and by its own deep balconies and massive core. Other Vastu issues often cited by practitioners:

  • Brahmasthan breach: 27 different floor plans, each floor different – no continuous central open courtyard.
  • W-form: Lotus and Sun motifs everywhere are good for Surya, but heavy cantilevers and “H” shape create irregularity.
  • Kitchen/Fire: Multiple kitchens on different levels violate Agni in SE rule.

Family reportedly did extensive remediation before Grihapravesh in late 2011.

2. Maharishi Sthapatya Veda (MSV)

This is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s stricter Vedic system – stricter than popular Vastu.

  • Brahmasthan: Must be completely open, no load-bearing column. Antilia’s central core is structural – fails MSV.
  • Orientation: MSV requires exact cardinal orientation, 0 degree deviation. Antilia is ~15 degrees off true east to align with Altamount Road grid.
  • Proportion: MSV uses Ayadi formulas. Antilia uses Western skyscraper proportions – 8.0 Richter earthquake-resistant engineering – not ayadi.

In MSV terms, it would be classified as a commercial Vastu, not a Sthapatya Veda residence.

3. Feng Shui (Chinese)

  • Form School: Antilia sits on Cumballa Hill ridge – good Dragon on back, but sea-facing west side is open. In Feng Shui, West is Metal/decline, facing Arabian Sea means Qi disperses fast. Requires strong water feature at front to collect.
  • Mouth of Chi: East entrance is good – East is Wood, morning growth. But the 6 floors of parking at base create “cut feet” – Chi cannot rise.
  • Flying Stars: Built 2004-2010 = Period 8. Its facing direction (reports vary E vs SE) would put it as a double 8 in Period 8 – very auspicious for wealth, which matches outcome. Delay 2011 = Period 8 still, move-in after remediation.

Feng Shui masters in Hong Kong have called it “too Yang” – all glass, steel, no Yin courtyard, overstimulating.

4. Western Geomancy & Arabic Ilm al-Raml

If you cast a geomancy chart for the foundation date (2006 start, per Perkins+Will) and location 19.0596°N, 72.8097°E:

  • Populus / Via pattern emerges – building that is many buildings in one, each floor different plan. Good for a family with many independent businesses.
  • Conjunctio: The W-plant lot was originally an orphanage land under Waqf dispute – in geomancy, previous-use memory stays. Requires clearing ritual – which Ambanis did with extensive pujas.

5. Geodesy & Bau-Biologie (German Building Biology)

  • Geodesy: Lies on Deccan basalt plateau, not on major Hartmann or Curry line crossing per Mumbai grid. But Altamount Road is high EMF zone – dense mobile towers. Bau-Biologie would flag:
    • Glass facade = high heat load, requires massive AC – electrosmog.
    • No natural earthing for 27 floors up. Good that Perkins+Will used steel frame designed for earthquakes, but steel amplifies radiofrequency.
    • Mitigation seen: extensive gardens on every alternate terrace, vertical gardens, lotus pond – Bau-Biologie recommends 30% biophilic compensation.

6. Malay Tiang Seri / Penunggu

In Nusantara tradition, a building must have semangat from a Seri tree post. Antilia has no central timber tiang seri – it’s all steel. So traditional Bomoh would say it has no “navel”. The remedy used: Nita Ambani’s famous lotus temple inside and large Balinese wood temple on upper floor acts as symbolic tiang.

Location wise – hilltop facing sea is considered keras – powerful penunggu. Needs offerings to sea-facing side, which the Ambanis do with annual Satyanarayan puja.

7. Astrology (Mundane)

  • Name: Antilia – named after mythical Atlantic island of Antillia. In astrology, islands in Atlantic = Rahu symbolism – illusion, foreign, unattainable.
  • Foundation: If taken as 2010 completion, Capricorn dominant – Saturn structure, tall, cold, enduring. Good for business empire.
  • Mumbai chart: Altamount Road falls in Karka rashi zone for Mumbai. Moon-water-sea view balances Saturn tower.

8. Numerology

  • 27 floors = 2+7=9 Mars – energy, construction, disputes. 9 also is highest single digit – status.
  • Address: 10, Altamount Road = 1 = Sun – leadership, matches Sun and Lotus motifs inside.
  • Built at reported $2B cost: In Chaldean, 2 = Moon – sea-facing, emotions, public image.
  • Year moved 2012 = 5 Mercury – communication, media attention exploded after move.

Bottom line synthesis:

From a modern architect view: Perkins+Will + Leighton Holdings built a sea-facing anti-seismic tower. From traditional sciences: It is powerful but difficult. It violates strict old rules (Brahmasthan, open East, single plan) which explains the 2-year delay to fix Vastu, but its sheer height, East entrance, Lotus/Sun yantra correction, and Period 8 wealth stars make it an extremely strong wealth palace – exactly what a Mars-9, Sun-1 building should do for India’s richest family.

If you were building your own version, the lessons would be: keep East light and open, keep Brahmasthan clear even in a tower, and balance high Yang glass/steel with living green and water.

Mannat ( Villa Vienna) Shahrukh Khan Residence A Vastu View

Wednesday, 02 September 2026 by Anand Soni

Here is the full story:

Where it is Sea-facing bungalow on Bandstand, Bandra West, Mumbai. Address: Land’s End, Byramji Jeejeebhoy Road, Bandra (W). It’s a 27,000 sq ft property right on the Arabian Sea, which is why you get those iconic sunset photos of it.

Original history It wasn’t built for a film star. It was built as Villa Vienna – originally in the late 1800s by Raja Bijai Sen of Mandi for one of his queens, and later listed as a heritage bungalow built in 1914. Because of that, it is a Grade 2-B / Grade III heritage structure – which is why even today SRK needs special clearance from MCZMA and heritage committees to renovate it.

How Shah Rukh got it SRK first saw it in 1997 while shooting Yes Boss outside the bungalow and was fascinated by it. He had no money to buy it then, but promised Gauri Khan he would. In 2001, he bought it from the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust for around Rs 13 crore on a 99-year lease. In 2005 he renamed it Mannat, which means a wish or prayer fulfilled.

What it is today Two connected buildings: the original heritage Villa Vienna in front, and a modern 6-storey annexe behind it where the family actually lives. The annexe was built later. Designed inside by Gauri Khan herself. Over 10 years of makeover with crystal chandeliers, Italian marble, art pieces, life-size statues, a library, private theatre, gym, and that famous terrace where he greets fans. Current market value is estimated at Rs 200 crore+ – making it one of the most expensive private residences in India.

Why people gather there Every day, crowds gather outside the gates just for a photo. On his birthday (Nov 2), Eid, and New Year’s, thousands wait and SRK comes out to the balcony/terrace to wave – a tradition now.

Latest update In late 2024-2025, Gauri Khan submitted plans to add two more floors and renovate the annexe – work is expected to take almost 2 years and needs coastal zone approval because it’s sea-facing.

Bandra Bandstand, and you can’t go inside – but you can see the iconic black gates and the nameplate “Mannat” from outside.Shah Rukh Khan’s primary residence is the famous Mannat – Bandstand, Bandra West, Mumbai. It’s one of the most photographed celebrity homes in India .Location-wise it’s sea-facing Bandra. Now, how different astrology systems would interpret his residence

1. Western Astrology (Tropical)

Western astrology looks at the 4th House – House of Home and Roots.
SRK is born 2 Nov 1965, New Delhi. With Scorpio Sun, his 4th house themes are intense, private, transformative. Western reading would say: home must be a fortress, deeply private despite fame, near water (Scorpio is a water sign), and a place of emotional regeneration. Mannat being sea-facing, heavily guarded, and deeply personal to him fits that perfectly.

2. Sidereal Astrology

Sidereal uses the actual star positions, not seasons. His Sun shifts to Libra in sidereal. Libra rules beauty, architecture, and status. A sidereal reading would emphasize a residence that is iconic, aesthetically balanced, and a symbol of status and Venusian luxury – which Mannat is. Libra also rules public partnerships, so home becomes a place where industry meets family.

3. Natal Astrology

This is the birth chart itself. SRK’s chart has a strong Saturn influence (long-lasting success after struggle) and strong Moon. Natal interpretation: residence is not inherited but self-built after years of struggle, becomes his karmic foundation. His 4th house lord in natal charts is often linked to Mumbai (a city of Moon / sea) even though he is from Delhi – indicating destiny pulls him to a coastal home.

4. Electional Astrology

This is astrology for choosing when to do something. Mannat was purchased in 2001 and then extensively renovated. An electional astrologer would have said the Griha Pravesh was chosen in a strong Taurus or Cancer lagna – fixed, stable signs good for property, with strong Jupiter to ensure growth in value. And it did – from ~13cr to now estimated 200cr+.

5. Horary Astrology (Prashna)

If you ask “Where does SRK live now?” at this moment, horary would look at the 4th house of the prashna chart. Since SRK is a fixed celebrity figure in public consciousness, horary would show a fixed sign (Taurus/Leo/Scorpio/Aquarius) on the 4th, indicating a long-term, unmoving, established residence – not a rented or temporary place.

6. Judicial / Mundane Astrology

This branch reads fate of public figures. Judicial reading: his residence represents his kingdom. The placement of Sun (King) in 10th and 4th house connection shows a palace-like home in the film capital. It becomes a landmark, not just a house – which is a mundane astrology indicator of a true superstar.

7. Medical Astrology

Medical astrology doesn’t directly show address, but shows what a home needs for health. For a Scorpio Sun with high-stress 10th house career, medical astrology would prescribe a home that is: near sea breeze (for breath / Mars energy), with open space, low noise pollution, and a private gym/yoga space to manage Mars/Saturn stress. Mannat is known to have that – gym, private theater for mental unwinding, sea air.

8. Chinese Astrology

SRK born 1965 = Wood Snake. Wood Snake’s lucky direction is West / Southwest, and element is wood + fire. Chinese feng shui would say his residence should face the sea (water balances fire) and have lots of wood elements, warm lighting, and be on the west side of the city to align with his personal direction. Mannat is in West Mumbai, west-facing sea.

9. Indian Astrology (Vedic / Jyotish)

As per Vedic, 4th house = Matru Bhava. SRK has strong Chaturtha Bhava with connection of Shani. This means: late but very grand property yoga. Vastu-wise, sea on the west is considered very auspicious for fame if main entrance is in the north-east. Vedic astrologers often cite his chart as having Gajakesari Yoga and Sasa Yoga which gives palace-like bungalow in a city like Mumbai, far from birthplace.

10. Arab and Persian Astrology

This system uses Lots (Arabic Parts), especially Lot of Home. His Lot of Fortune is heavily influenced by Jupiter and Venus. Arab system would predict a residence that is luxurious, large, and known to common people (Jupiter = expansion, public). Also predicts property near water and that it will itself become a place of pilgrimage for fans.

11. Celtic Astrology

Celtic has tree signs. 2 Nov is Reed. Reed people are described as secretive, powerful storytellers who need a fortress that is both public and hidden. Celtic reading: home near water, with strong walls, that protects secrets. The tree itself – Reed grows by water – again pointing to a coastal home.

12. Egyptian Astrology

Egyptian sign for early Nov is Anubis / Scorpio decan ruled by Bastet. Anubis guards thresholds. Egyptian reading would say home is a temple/guardian house, with statues, strong gate guardians (Mannat’s famous gates), and nameplate that acts as a protective spell. House becomes identity.

13. Mayan Astrology

Born 2 Nov 1965 = 10 Ik (Wind) in Mayan. Ik is about communication, film, breath, influence. Mayan reading: residence will be in a windy, coastal place where his voice/spirit can travel. Home will be full of art, scripts, and air element. He will never truly leave it – Ik people root deeply once they choose land.

14. Face Reading (Samudrik Shastra / Physiognomy)

In face reading, his broad forehead, strong cheekbones, and deep-set eyes indicate a person who builds a fortress-like home for family security. His face shows strong Saturn mount on the cheeks = love for old, solid, heritage-type structures rather than modern glass apartments. So a bungalow, not a high-rise, is predicted.

All these systems essentially converge on the same picture: a sea-facing, fortress-like, famous, luxurious but very private bungalow in West Mumbai that is self-earned, long-term, and becomes a landmark.
