The gudi symbolizes the victory of the shailivahana king over the sakas and it is said that it was hosited for the first time when he returned to paithan . The gudi also symbolizes brahmadvaj or flag of brahma that has a mention in the brahma purana it is velieved that lord brahma created the world on this day . Another significance of the gudi is that of rama’s victory over ravan . It marks the occasion of rama’s coronation following his return after the 14 years of exile .
